HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Guild of Organists on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the American Guild of Organists is to foster a thriving community of musicians who share their knowledge and inspire passion for the organ; and

WHEREAS, To further this mission, local chapters of the organization were formed across the country; and

WHEREAS, On June 6, 1983, the Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Guild of Organists was re-established by Marianne Webb and fellow organists in southern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Since that time, the membership area of the chapter has expanded to include southeastern Missouri and northwestern Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, For 40 years, the chapter's mission has been to provide interest in future organists, to promote the hearing and playing of organ music, and to continually build a community of people interested in organ playing and choral conducting; and

WHEREAS, The chapter meets its mission by hosting recitals and hymn festivals, providing scholarships to students interested in studying the organ, providing workshops for chapter members, and participating in community arts events; and

WHEREAS, In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the chapter and in memory of the legacy of the founding member, Marianne Webb, former students of hers are leading a hymn festival at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carbondale on February 19, 2023; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we join in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and we wish continued success to the chapter as it trains the next generation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Guild of Organists as an expression of our esteem and respect.
