HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Marie Sklodowska Curie Metropolitan High School for being named the World's Best School Supporting Healthy Lives in an international competition sponsored by T4, a nonprofit organization focused on connecting teachers from around the world to improve education globally and share best practices; and

WHEREAS, The competition seeks to find schools that are making tangible impacts on the lives of students and the wider community, and schools are judged on their vision, programming, and resources to support healthy student lives; specifically, the best school award recognizes the school's Behavioral Health Team and its use of the fine arts curriculum to enrich students' lives and address mental health issues; and

WHEREAS, Curie Metropolitan High School is the only U.S. school to win this award, which is sponsored by T4 in partnership with American Express and Accenture, and win an accompanying $50,000 grant from T4 Education; the panel of 200 judges were impressed with the school's robust arts programming and its focus on supporting students; and

WHEREAS, Curie Metropolitan High School is a public four–year magnet high school located in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago; it serves nearly 3,000 students and is the third largest high school in the Chicago Public School system; and

WHEREAS, The award is a testament to the engaging work of the faculty, staff, and administrators to provide students with mental health supports, wraparound services, and art enrichment programs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Marie Sklodowska Curie Metropolitan High School for being named the World's Best School Supporting Healthy Lives; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Curie Metropolitan High School Principal Homero Peñuelas, Ed.D.
