HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened by the death of former State
4Representative Robert John "Bob" Walters, who passed away on
5January 21, 2023 at the age of 92; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Walters was born to Joseph and Liguori
7Walters in Alton; he attended Campion Jesuit High School and
8St. Ambrose College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Rep. Walters proudly served in
10the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 until 1954; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Following his service, Rep. Walters worked for
12his family's business before being elected in 1970 to the
13Illinois House of Representatives, where he would proudly
14serve his constituents for two terms; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rep. Walters worked for 22 years as the Executive
16Director of the Southwestern Illinois Employers Association
17before being appointed in 2005 to the Illinois State Board of
18Elections, where he worked until his retirement in 2012; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rep. Walters was known for his support of youth
20sports as he was not only an athlete but also a coach and an

1avid fan of Alton Marquette Catholic High School, Alton High
2School, and Lewis & Clark Community College athletics; he
3attended many games, and his presence radiated throughout the
4crowd; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Walters married his beloved wife, Jeanne
6Osseck, in 1956, and they raised nine children, Robert Walters
7Jr., Jim Walters, Theresa Logan, Linda Scheiter, Tom Walters,
8Mike Walters, Carolyn McCluskey, Mary Zamorski, and David
9Walters, and were blessed with 20 grandchildren and three
10great-grandchildren; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rep. Walters will be remembered for his
12commitment to his faith, his eternal love for his family and
13his wife, Jeanne, and his outstanding accomplishments in
14serving the people of Illinois and beyond; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of former State Representative Robert
18"Bob" John Walters and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Rep. Bob Walters as an expression of
