| | 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Mt. Zion High School | | 4 | | boys basketball team, the Braves, on their historic 2023-2024 | | 5 | | season; and
| | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Braves went to the state tournament for the | | 7 | | first time in 20 years, making history every step of the way | | 8 | | and setting a school record for wins with 35 against only 3 | | 9 | | losses; and
| | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Braves had only one regular season loss, | | 11 | | which was in January to the defending Class 3A state champs; | | 12 | | and
| | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Braves had a tournament win of 47 to 46 over | | 14 | | Centralia in the Class 3A Super-Sectional in Springfield, | | 15 | | which was the closest margin of victory all season; and
| | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Braves won 33 of their 38 games this season by | | 17 | | double digits; and
| | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Braves defeated their opponents by an average | | 19 | | margin of 22.6 points with a rotation of primarily | | 20 | | non-seniors; and

| | 1 | | WHEREAS, Junior Lyncoln Koester and sophomore JC Anderson | | 2 | | led the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game and 14.7 | | 3 | | points per game, respectively; and
| | 4 | | WHEREAS, The Braves next two top scorers, Sam Driscoll and | | 5 | | Brayden Trimble, both juniors, helped the team tremendously; | | 6 | | the other players on the team contributing to the remarkable | | 7 | | season include Tucker Burrus, Makobi Adams, Chase Fink, Grant | | 8 | | McAtee, Landon Weigler, Jacob Harvey, Connor Fox, Gage Owens, | | 9 | | Will Grohne, Logan Auvil, and Ed Neighbors; and
| | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Braves are led by Head Coach Dale Schuring | | 11 | | and Assistant Coaches Jay Driscoll and Mike Greer; and
| | 12 | | WHEREAS, The Braves never quit and showed determination, | | 13 | | grit, and toughness every time it was needed; therefore, be it
| | 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | | 15 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | | 16 | | we congratulate the Mt. Zion High School boys basketball team, | | 17 | | the Braves, on their historic season, and we wish them many | | 18 | | more successful seasons to come; and be it further
| | 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | | 20 | | presented to the Braves as a symbol of our respect and esteem. |
