HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lois Mae (Morrison) Steans of Bannockburn, who passed away on February 5, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans was born in Lake Forest on November 30, 1933; she married Harrison I. Steans in 1957, and they shared over 60 years together; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans and her husband adopted a class of rising sixth graders as part of the I Have A Dream program, and she spent many evenings working with the Dreamers and their families; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans was a longstanding and active member of the Ravinia Women's Board and took great pride in creating the Ravinia's Noteworthy cookbook, a process that involved testing, rating, and editing countless recipes; she created many wonderful memories for her family with elaborate picnics in the Ravinia park; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans was an avid gardener and was a member of various garden clubs and the Chicago Botanic Garden; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans was a gifted pianist who enjoyed playing show tunes and classical music, with the work of Frédéric Chopin being a favorite; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans was well-known for her gracious hosting abilities, treasure hunts, creative stories, picture books, love of nature, and world-class flower-arranging; she was able to identify birds and flowers of all types; she loved swimming and the sun and had a unique ability for finding shark teeth on her beloved Manasota Key beach; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans will be remembered for her vivacious presence, creativity, humor, warmth, quick wit, and the joy she took in her grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Lois Steans is survived by her sister, Maxine (Morrison) Hunter; her daughters, Jennifer (Jim Kastenholz), Heather (Leo Smith), and Robin (Leonard Gail); her grandchildren, Myra, Sam, Abby, Jessica, Leah, Sydney, and Nick; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lois Mae (Morrison) Steans and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lois Steans as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
