HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Joanne Zillman on the
4occasion of her retirement as deputy director and youth
5services manager of Batavia Public Library; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Joanne Zillman has worked for Batavia Public
7Library for 26 years, starting in 1997; and
 
8    WHEREAS, As deputy director of Batavia Public Library,
9Joanne Zillman has developed community connections and
10partnerships; she has also represented the library at
11professional meetings throughout the State; and
 
12    WHEREAS, As manager of the Youth Service Department,
13Joanne Zillman has provided countless hours of lively
14programming, including summer and winter reading events,
15animal visits, after-hours sessions, story times, craft
16projects, STEAM experiences, babysitting classes, and off-site
17programs; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Joanne Zillman has been a champion of Born to
19Read, an early literacy program in which eligible families
20with new babies receive a free book bag with information on
21literacy, as well as board books in English or Spanish; and

1    WHEREAS, Joanne Zillman previously served as part of the
2management team that planned and opened the new 54,000
3square-foot library building at 10 South Batavia Avenue in
4January 2002, a location that prominently highlighted Youth
5Services with hands-on stations, outdoor program areas, and
6appropriate technology; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joanne Zillman also helped steer Batavia Public
8Library through the challenges and changes that stemmed from
9the COVID-19 pandemic; while serving as co-chair of Batavia
10Counts 2020 amid the U.S. Census, she managed a significant
11grant to support census efforts, an initiative that was
12instrumental in Batavia's response rate being 82.9%, compared
13to the regional response rate of 69.8%; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Joanne Zillman has been recognized as a Library
15Leader, an award bestowed biennially to individuals for
16sustained, outstanding contributions to Batavia Public
17Library; she is the award's ninth recipient since it was
18established in 2003; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we congratulate Joanne Zillman on the occasion of her
22retirement from Batavia Public Library, and we thank her for

1her commitment to serving the children and families of the
2City of Batavia; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to Joanne Zillman as an expression of our esteem and
5respect.
