HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ernest R. "Ernie" Floyd of Waterford, Wisconsin, who passed away on April 10, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Floyd was born to Clarence and Marie (Miller) Floyd in Tishomingo County, Mississippi on October 21, 1929; he married Veda Long in Luka, Mississippi on July 3, 1949; he lived in Wheeler, Mississippi and Spring Grove, Illinois before eventually settling in Waterford, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Floyd worked for the Johns Manville Corporation, a company committed to manufacturing premium-quality insulation, commercial roofing, and building materials, for many years before his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Floyd and his wife became active members of Lakeland Baptist Church in Lake Villa, Illinois in 1952; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Floyd enjoyed an array of hobbies, including operating his amateur radio, camping, and fishing; he especially loved spending time with his family and telling stories and jokes to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will pass them on; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Floyd was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Veda; his parents; his daughter, Jeanie Jonker; and his brother, Bob Floyd; and

WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Ernest Floyd was survived by his children, Betty (Diane) Gagnebin, Ken Floyd, and Gary (Jenise) Floyd; his siblings, Colene Wright and Ben Floyd; his sister-in-law, Sheila Floyd; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ernest R. "Ernie" Floyd and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ernest Floyd as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
