HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Head Coach Kurt
4Hasenstein of the Glenbrook South High School cross country
5and track and field teams, the Titans, on the occasion of his
6retirement; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Glenbrook South High School,
8Coach Hasenstein graduated from Peoria Heights High School in
9Peoria Heights, where he competed in the IHSA as a three-sport
10athlete; he then attended North Central College in Naperville,
11competing as a track and field athlete, and was named a
12two-time NCAA Division 3 All-American in the decathlon and a
13four-time champion of the College Conference of Illinois and
14Wisconsin (CCIW); as a graduate assistant, he coached track
15and field and cross country at Minnesota State University,
16Mankato for two years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein, better known as "Coach Hass" to
18athletes, began teaching PE and coaching cross country at
19Glenbrook South High School in Glenview in August 1991; during
20his tenure, he has served as head coach of both the Glenbrook
21South High School cross country and track and field teams for
22more than two decades; and

1    WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has led both teams to victory
2across multiple events and seasons; in cross country, he has
3coached three state-qualifying teams, with the highest scoring
4achieving a 7th place finish in 1991, and several
5state-qualifying individual runners; in track and field, he
6has produced state-qualifying athletes for all but five of his
733 seasons as coach; indeed, he has guided athletes towards
8achieving state championships in the 300m hurdles, discus, and
9twice in the 100m dash, and he led teams that placed fifth
10overall in the State in both 2021 and 2022; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has given back to the community
12through organizing an annual fundraising run for the local
13food pantry that has been held every October for the past 26
14years, which has raised more than $100,000 overall; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has proven his commitment to his
16student athletes through his uncanny ability to remember all
17his former athletes and their respective accomplishments
18without hesitation; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has conducted himself as a Titan
20in every sense of the word, and he deserves to have every honor
21and recognition bestowed upon him for his years of service;
22therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we congratulate Head Coach Kurt Hasenstein of the Glenbrook
4South High School cross country and track and field teams, the
5Titans, on his retirement, and we thank him for his commitment
6to students, athletes, and the community; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Coach Hasenstein as an expression of our esteem
9and respect.
