HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Affy Tapple company on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, Edna Kastrup created what could be considered the first caramel apple in 1948; and

WHEREAS, The Kastrup family opened the Affy Tapple store on North Clark next to the Adelphi Theater in 1952, using a name that began with "a" so it would appear early in the phone book; and

WHEREAS, Local schools started Affy Tapple Day fundraisers in 1960; Affy Tapples began being sold at local Jewel and Walgreens stores in 1980; and

WHEREAS, The Kastrup family sold the company to private investors in 1995, and Affy Tapple moved from Rogers Park to a state-of-the-art facility in Niles in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Brandon Beavers and his mother, Josephine, acquired the company in 2017, which was an easy decision for them as Affy Tapple caramel apples have long been a cherished treat within their family; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Affy Tapple factory produces a 350,000 apples daily, requiring 20 tons of caramel and nine-million peanuts; the operation churns out nine apples every second; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Affy Tapple caramel apples have delighted millions of Chicagoans, and when the leaves start to turn to color of caramel and the air is as crisp as an apple, everyone knows it is fall in Chicago, or as it is known to many "caramel apple season"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Affy Tapple company on its 75th anniversary, and we wish it many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Affy Tapple company as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
