HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, With the period of September 15 through October 15 designated as Hispanic Heritage Month, the members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Chef Atzimba Perez on her distinguished career as a chef and as a community advocate; and

WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez is an entrepreneur, a founder, a business owner, and a philanthropist with over 25 years of experience in the culinary arts industry; and

WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez studied hospitality and gastronomy at Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica in Mexico; and

WHEREAS, In Mexico, Atzimba Perez owned and operated a successful catering business that she had to leave behind when she moved to the United States in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Once stateside, Atzimba Perez began working as a server in many hotels and traditional institutions, including the Union League Club; and

WHEREAS, Through hard work and an inquisitive nature along with the support of other chefs who valued her talent, Atzimba Perez was able to establish and develop her current business in the U.S., Atzimba Catering and Events; and

WHEREAS, Through Atzimba Catering and Events, Atzimba Perez has brought pre-Hispanic, traditional Mexican cuisine to Chicago, offering a wide variety of dishes that showcase her extensive knowledge of and passion for the culinary arts; and

WHEREAS, During her culinary career, Atzimba Perez has had the opportunity to cook for many notable individuals, including U.S. Representative Chuy García and the Mexican pop-rock band Maná; she has also participated in multiple events, such as the Chicago Sueños Music Festival and Pilsen Gourmet; and

WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez has collaborated with numerous chefs highly recognized in the culinary field; additionally, she has given several interviews, and her work has been featured on a number of shows and programs, including the six-episode series No Passport Required broadcast on PBS WTTW Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez is known for her philanthropic spirit and has volunteered for the American Heart Association, Latinos Unidos por la Salud, the American Liver Foundation, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Chicago; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Chef Atzimba Perez on her accomplishments as a chef and as a community advocate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we congratulates Atzimba Perez on becoming a legal resident of the United States; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Atzimba Perez as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
