HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Arab American Democratic Club on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club holds the distinguished honor of being the very first Arab organization of its kind in the State of Illinois and proudly remains the longest-standing Arab organization in the region; and

WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club was founded by the visionary leader Samir Khalil and the late Miriam Ziyad, pioneers who recognized the need for a platform that would empower Arab Americans, celebrate their cultural heritage, and advocate for their rightful place in the diverse tapestry of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its 40-year history, the Arab American Democratic Club has remained unwavering in its commitment to fostering civic engagement, promoting diversity, and advancing the interests of Arab Americans, setting an inspiring example for future generations; and

WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club has not only served as a vital pillar of support for the Arab American community but has also played a pivotal role in building bridges of understanding and cooperation among all communities while championing unity, inclusivity, and activism as guiding principles; and

WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club has significantly contributed to strengthening democracy through leading efforts to increase voter participation, supporting candidates who uphold its values, and advocating for policies that ensure justice and equity for all; and

WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club has played an instrumental role in shaping the history and future of Illinois, enriching the cultural fabric of the State, and fostering a sense of pride and belonging for Arab Americans; and

WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club's 40th anniversary is a historic milestone and an occasion to celebrate the enduring legacy of its founders, Samir Khalil and the late Miriam Ziyad, whose dedication and vision have paved the way for the club's continued success; and

WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club will celebrate its 40th anniversary on November 1, 2023; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Arab American Democratic Club, the first and longest-standing Arab organization in the State of Illinois, on its 40th anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we thank the Arab American Democratic Club for its tireless efforts in promoting civic engagement, fostering unity, and advocating for justice and equality; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Arab American Democratic Club as an expression of our esteem and respect.
