HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sandra
4Gardner, who passed away on May 22, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner was born to Obie and Mary Gardner
6on December 6, 1954; she attended Francis W. Parker School in
7Chicago, where she sang in the a capella choir; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner worked at Rush Presbyterian
9Hospital and JMB Realty; she retired in 2019 from Northwestern
10Hospital after 30 years of service; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner was a member of Starlight St.
12James M.B. Church and developed a commitment to serving
13others; she joined the choir, singing soprano, and was excited
14about going to rehearsals, learning new songs, and traveling
15with the choir; she also served in the Willing Workers Club;
16she then joined Crusaders Church in 1990; she loved children
17and was placed over the children's ministry, where she
18mothered them and treated them like her own; she enrolled in
19the New Members class, where she bonded with her class and said
20they were like family; she was a faithful member on the deacons
21board, serving and ministering to others in need; she traveled
22with church members on missions to Addis Ababa Ethiopia, the

1Czech Republic, and parts of the United States; she was later
2ordained as a prophetess; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner loved traveling and going to
4church conferences, picnics, and trips with the family; one of
5her favorite times was being with her son and family every 4th
6of July; she looked forward to staying overnight to watch
7fireworks or just visit; she was known as "Nana" to her
8grandchildren, and being with them was what she would talk
9about the most; she was so happy to see them achieve their
10goals, and she would reward them knowing that would make them
11work harder to receive more surprises; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner gave of herself in many ways; she
13happily donated her time, a ride, a home cooked meal, clothes,
14or her ear to listen; she enjoyed serving others; she had a
15bubbly personality, and it was a joy to be in her presence; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner loved her siblings, nieces, and
17nephews; she always looked forward to spending time with them
18and was glad when the family would meet; cooking was her forte,
19and she especially loved when family gathered for birthdays
20and holidays; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner was preceded in death by her
22father, Obie; her brother, Melvin Gardner; and her sister,

1Dorothy Thompson; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner is survived by her mother, Mary
3Gardner; her son, DeJaun (Crystal) Gardner; her grandchildren,
4Kahari, Kiari, and Kaeden; her sisters, Sarah Butler, Annie
5Travis, Mary McKinley, Gloria (Tyrone) Willis, and Joyce
6Gardner; her brothers, Jimmie (Florida) Gardner and Leonard
7Gardner; her aunt, Cora Hudson; and numerous nieces, nephews,
8and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Sandra Gardner and extend our sincere
12condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Sandra Gardner as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
