HR0340 103RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY

1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to commend Justin Cox on his service as
4 Chief Counsel to the Speaker and on his more than 13 years of
5 service to the House of Representatives and the State of
6 Illinois; and

7     WHEREAS, Justin Cox began serving as Chief Counsel to the
8 Speaker in 2016, having previously served as assistant and
9 deputy counsel; and

10     WHEREAS, Justin Cox's leadership, knowledge, diligence,
11 and expertise on a variety of complex issues allowed the House
12 Democratic Caucus, the House of Representatives, and the State
13 of Illinois to enact numerous pieces of important and
14 impactful legislation; and

15     WHEREAS, During his years on staff, Justin Cox worked on a
16 variety of issues, with a focus on civil law, insurance,
17 healthcare, telecommunications, and environment and energy;
18 and

19     WHEREAS, In his first weeks on the job, Justin Cox
20 assisted with the preparation and deliberations for the
21 impeachment trial of former Governor Rod Blagojevich; and

1     WHEREAS, Justin Cox supervised and trained dozens of
2 attorneys, helping guide them through the legislative process
3 as they analyzed and negotiated thousands of bills every year;
4 and

5     WHEREAS, Justin Cox helped members in negotiating hundreds
6 of bills, working with each member to help them advance their
7 respective legislative agendas; and

8     WHEREAS, Justin Cox served as parliamentarian to the House
9 of Representatives, acting in a fair and honest manner to
10 ensure the process had been followed throughout each session
11 day; and

12     WHEREAS, Justin Cox is the devoted partner of Kate and the
13 father of Ethan and Elizabeth; and

14     WHEREAS, Justin Cox's hard work and dedication was
15 essential to the operations of this chamber, and his
16 contributions will continue to be appreciated by those with
17 and for whom he worked; therefore, be it

18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20 we commend Justin Cox on his service as Chief Counsel to the

1 Speaker and on his over 13 years of service to the House of
2 Representatives and the State of Illinois, and we wish him the
3 best in his future endeavors; and be it further

4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Justin Cox as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
