HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate New Trier High School Head Coach Mike Napoleon on becoming the Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) winningest baseball coach; and

WHEREAS, Mike Napoleon set the IHSA record for victories by a baseball coach, 951, when his Trevians beat Glenbrook North High School 5 to 0 on April 27, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Mike Napoleon has been a head coach for 38 years, the last 27 with New Trier, and is affectionately known as "Coach Naps"; and

WHEREAS, Mike Napoleon has a record of 697-247-3 at New Trier with 14 Central Suburban League titles, 19 regional titles, and 10 supersectional titles; and

WHEREAS, Mike Napoleon feels fortunate for having had his assistant coaches with him for 20 years; his varsity staff includes Pete Drevline, Scott Klipowicz, and former Chicago Cubs star Kerry Wood; and

WHEREAS, Mike Napoleon was a three-sport athlete at St. Patrick High School; after graduating from the University of Illinois in 1982, he was a varsity assistant at Quigley South High School before being hired as head coach at Notre Dame High School in Niles in 1984; after five seasons at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, he joined New Trier in the fall of 1996; he's also been an assistant football coach throughout his tenure at Providence and New Trier; and

WHEREAS, Mike Napoleon and his wife of 39 years, Melanie, have two sons, Dusty and Dylan, who are assistant baseball coaches at Northwestern University and Western Kentucky University; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate New Trier High School Head Coach Mike Napoleon on becoming the Illinois High School Association's winningest baseball coach; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mike Napoleon as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
