HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the City of Countryside
4for its Municipal Complex being officially certified as a net
5zero energy building, the first municipal building in Illinois
6to achieve this designation; and
 
7    WHEREAS, A zero energy building generates 100% of the
8energy it consumes on an annual basis through on-site
9renewable energy; through a combination of creating renewable
10energy while reducing energy demand, buildings can operate
11efficiently enough to meet this goal; buildings are certified
12by the International Living Future Institute and require
13strict documentation review by a third-party auditor; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Municipal Complex was certified a net zero
15energy building by the International Living Future Institute
16in 2022; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The building is 35,020 square feet and has design
18elements that include air barriers, green roofing, LED
19lighting with motion sensors, and solar and geothermal energy;
20there are 636 solar panels on the roof and car ports,
21geothermal wells are drilled 450 feet down where temperatures
22remain constant, and the landscaping includes drought tolerant

1plantings native to Illinois; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Zero energy buildings contribute much less
3greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, helping to preserve the
4ozone layer and to prevent increased global warming;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate the City of Countryside for its Municipal
9Complex being certified as a net zero energy building; and be
10it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the Mayor of Countryside as a symbol of our
13respect and esteem.
