HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Janice
4M. (Jamrosz) Christiansen, who passed away on March 31, 2023;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen was born to Margaret
7(Campbell) Jamrosz and Sigmund F. Jamrosz in Springfield on
8December 19, 1943; she was a graduate of Michigan State
9University, with a major in history and a minor in English; she
10married John T. Christiansen in 1968, and they had two sons,
11Spencer Lynn and Jon Michael, before he preceded her in death
12in 1985; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen and her husband were third
14generation owners of the family business, FlagSource, a
15company that produces U.S. flags, which are 100% made in the
16U.S.A. and derived from American materials and labor; she
17joined the firm as president in 1990, vowing to return
18FlagSource to its former glory and to honor her husband's
19legacy; she rebuilt the business within 5 years, all while
20raising her two sons; as she propelled the business forward,
21she installed the largest embroidery machine in the world to
22embroider the starfields on U.S. flags; and

1    WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen was named the first
2chairwoman of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association (IMA) in
32010; she relished the position and connected with many
4different business and manufacturing associations to move
5Illinois manufacturing forward; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen had a great passion for
7traveling and exploring the world, and she made many of these
8journeys with her partner, Bob Bonifas; she was also a proud
9alum of Michigan State University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen loved her family, and one of
11her favorite family activities was hosting Christmas at her
12home, which was always a big and colorful event; she will be
13remembered for her leadership, her dedication to family and
14the family business, and her positive and upbeat manner; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Janice Christiansen is survived by her sons,
16Spencer (Jennifer) and Jon Michael (Maria); her grandchildren,
17Spencer Jr., Nathan, and Lucas; her brother, Michael Jamrosz;
18her nephews, Jeffrey (Jessica) and Joseph (Christine); her
19brother-in-law, William Christiansen; her many nieces and
20nephews; and her partner of nearly 20 years, Robert "Bob"
21Bonifas; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we mourn the passing of Janice M. (Jamrosz) Christiansen and
3extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
4who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Janice Christiansen as an
7expression of our deepest sympathy.
