HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Okawville High School girls basketball team, the Lady Rockets, on winning the 2023 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 1A Girls Basketball Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Rockets defeated the Christopher Lady Bearcats at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University on March 4, 2023 with a commanding final score of 56 to 35; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Rockets win over Christopher earned them their third girls state basketball championship, having previously hoisted the trophy in 1994 and 2000; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Rockets finished the season with a record of 34 and 4, having handed losses to the 2A state champion Mater Dei Lady Knights and the 3A champion O'Fallon Panthers; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Rockets are led by Head Coach Haylee Bowers and Assistant Coaches Mike Frederking and Paige Kasten; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Rockets basketball team includes seniors Elizabeth Frederking, Megan Rennegarbe, Briley Rhodes, and Paige Reichmann, juniors Mallory Bening, Adysen Harre, Alayna Kraus, Raelyn Obermeier, Maggie Sawicki, Madisyn Wienstroer, and Nora Wood, sophomores Jenna Hackstadt and Camryn Wiedwilt, and freshmen Kate Borrenpohl, Lillian Helbig, Carly Schmidt, Rylan Senior, and Caroline Tepe; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Okawville High School girls basketball team, the Lady Rockets, on winning the 2023 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 1A Girls Basketball Championship, and we wish the team many more successful seasons; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Haylee Bowers as an expression of our esteem and respect.
