HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4A. George Hovanec of Springfield, who passed away on Sunday,
5January 8, 2023, after a valiant battle with pancreatic
6cancer; and
 
7    WHEREAS, George Hovanec graduated from Indiana University
8of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science and from The Ohio
9State University with a Master of Public Administration; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 1978, George Hovanec began his career as
11Deputy Director of the Illinois Bureau of Budget; he then
12served as State Medicaid Director and as interim Director of
13the Illinois Department of Public Aid, where he was revered as
14an outstanding public servant; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Since 2005, George Hovanec had been a highly
16respected advisor to both Children's Memorial Hospital/Ann &
17Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and the
18Community Behavioral Healthcare Association of Illinois; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Among his many noteworthy achievements, George
20Hovanec served in a critical role as an advisor analyzing
21Medicaid access and funding and had a direct and material

1impact on the health and well-being of the children and
2families in Illinois; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Throughout his career, George Hovanec earned the
4respect of leading policymakers across the nation for his vast
5experience and expertise in state and federal Medicaid policy;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, George Hovanec was a man of strong faith, a
8devout Catholic; and
 
9    WHEREAS, George Hovanec loved to organize games of golf
10and softball with friends and was an ardent fan of the
11Pittsburgh Steelers; and
 
12    WHEREAS, George Hovanec's contributions as a brilliant,
13thoughtful, hard-working, humble, humorous, generous, and
14compassionate person will be greatly missed by all who were
15privileged to know him; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of A. George Hovanec and extend our
19sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
20and loved him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of George Hovanec as an expression of
3our appreciation for his extraordinary life and friendship and
4as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
