HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jeanie
4Dunn, Pastor Emeritus, who passed away on February 28, 2023;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn was born in Eutaw, Alabama to John H.
7and Mary E. Dunn on November 20, 1932; he attended Carver High
8School in Eutaw; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn's family were farmers, but at the age
10of 24, he started a timber cutting business, where he cut and
11sold timber logs in the area; he began to attend church and
12joined New Light MB Church in Clinton, Alabama in 1960; he
13served as assistant Sunday school superintendent from 1960 to
141962; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn moved to Chicago, where he and his
16wife started a family and raised three children; upon his
17relocation, he joined Mt. Zion MB Church and became a deacon;
18he served on the Deacon Board from 1963 to 1967; in 1967, he
19joined True Vine of Holiness MB Church, which was founded by
20his cousin; he served as chairman of both the Deacon Board and
21the Fundraising Committee from 1967 to 1971; he attended Moody
22Seminary Institute from 1971 to 1973; he served from 1972 to

11980 as financial secretary of the Auburn Park Ministers
2Alliance, vice president and secretary of the Fellowship
3District Association, and chairman of the Evangelism
4Department at the Progressive Baptist State Convention of
5Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, While serving in the ministry, Pastor Dunn
7attended school and became an automobile mechanic; he was
8employed by Firestone as a full-time mechanic; he also owned
9and operated an auto repair business; in 1976, he was offered a
10position as a mechanic with American Airlines/Sky Chefs, where
11he remained until retirement; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn organized the Greater Tabernacle
13Holiness MB Church on December 20, 1980; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn was preceded in death by his parents
15and siblings; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn is survived by his wife of 61 years,
17Minister Augusta M. Dunn; his children, Pastor Gene (Cindy)
18Dunn, Angela (Herman) Gibson, and Annette Dunn; his
19grandchildren, Kavin Williams, Brandon (Brooke) Dunn, Spencer
20Dunn, Taylor Dunn, and Armani Gibson; his great-grandchildren,
21Braylon Richardson, Wyzdom Dunn, Rylah Dunn, Bryce Dunn, and
22Kennedi Kimbrough; his nephews, Reverend Dr. James E. (Jan)

1Dunn, Michael A. Dunn, Henry E. Dunn, and Willie G. Dunn;
2numerous other relatives and friends; his spiritual son,
3Maurice (Chanel) McDonald; and his spiritual daughters,
4Andriane Fudge and Renata Dickerson; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we mourn the passing of Jeanie Dunn, Pastor Emeritus and
8extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
9who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Pastor Dunn as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
