HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, St. John's Conclave is the State of Illinois'
3premier body of the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine; the
4organization was initially chartered by the Grand Imperial
5Conclave of the Red Cross of England on February 3, 1872; and
 
6    WHEREAS, St. John's Conclave was declared to be the
7Conclave No. 1 of the Grand Imperial Council of Knights of the
8Red Cross of Constantine and Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of
9the State of Illinois on August 30, 1872, heading the Empire of
10the West; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The membership of St. John's Conclave has
12included many distinguished citizens who have contributed
13significantly to Chicago and the State of Illinois, including
14Chicago City Comptroller Theodore T. Gurney (1820–1886),
15Chicago Mayor DeWitt Clinton Cregier (1829-1898), Lieutenant
16Governor of Illinois and Brigadier General John Corson Smith
17(1832–1910), Chief Executive Officer W. Clement Stone
18(1902–2002), Governor of Illinois Richard B. Ogilvie
19(1923–1988), and many other leaders in medicine, law, and
20business; and
 
21    WHEREAS, St. John's Conclave continues in its 151st year
22of providing fraternal support to the community and following

1out the chivalric traditions of Constantinian Freemasonry;
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we congratulate St. John's Conclave on 150 years of service
6and celebrate this momentous anniversary; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Recorder Martin P. Starr of St. John's Conclave.
