HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Murtie
4Mae Myers of Chicago, who passed away on January 12, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers was born to JT Allen and Lucille
6Allen in Macon, Mississippi on December 5, 1928; she relocated
7to the South Side of Chicago in 1940, where she remained for 19
8years; she attended Manley Military School in Chicago, where
9she learned how to sew and make hats, which she eventually
10mastered and loved doing; she married Archie D. Myers; she
11then moved to the West Side, where she lived for the next 63
12years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After completing her education, Murtie Mae Myers
14began working at the top retail stores in Chicago, including
15Saks Fifth Avenue and Sears; she loved working at these stores
16because she had a special eye for fashion; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers committed to her faith at an
18early age; she attended Greater White Stone M.B. Church on
19Chicago's West Side for many years; she was also a member of
20Faith Community Church; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers was known for her ability to

1dress to impress; she also loved dancing and cooking, and her
2special dishes were greens, chicken, and her marquee pound
3cake; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers was preceded in death by her
5husband; her uncle, Will Allen; her brother, John Allen; and
6her daughter, Conchitta Myers; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers is survived by her children,
8LueAnn, Edie (Melvin), Archie (Dorothy), Darlene (the late
9Eddie), Vennay, and Stanley (the late Gloria); her special
10nephew, Ricky Allen; her first cousins, Gene Allen, James
11Allen, and Roy Allen; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
12and great-great-grandchildren; her cousins; and a host of
13family and friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Murtie Mae Myers and extend our sincere
17condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18her; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Murtie Mae Myers as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
