HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 is the only one of over 17,500 Knights of Columbus Councils in the world that is comprised of former and current law enforcement members and active and former military; and

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 is an elite organization; and

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 is composed of Roman Catholic men ages 18 and older who are "in union with the Holy See," accept the teaching authority of the Catholic Church in regards to faith and morality, aspire "to live in accord with the precepts of the Catholic Church," and are within good standing in the Church; and

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 also provides financial, as well as other, assistance, to groups every year, including Misericordia, the National Alliance for Mental Illness, Gold Star Families, Tunnel to Towers for Veterans, St. Baldrick's Cancer Research, Little Sisters for the Poor, Special Olympics, and the Daley Plaza Nativity Scene Committee, among other organizations; and

WHEREAS, The works of Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 are informed by four core principles, charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 brings together the brave members and former members of our law enforcement organizations and military in service and faith to improve their home communities; and

WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 is recognizing its 25th anniversary in March of 2023, which is marking over two decades of service to the Chicagoland area and commitment to the members' faith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 and all of its members on 25 years of outstanding community service as an organization; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Chaplain Father Daniel J. Brandt, Grand Knight Dennis P. Fitzgerald, Deputy Grand Knight Kenneth Malkowski, and all 2022-2023 Council Officers of the Knights of Columbus Police Council #12173 as a symbol of respect and esteem for this anniversary and years of success and fraternity.
