HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who
4have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, U.S. Army Specialist 4 Norman Eugene Treest was
7born in Aurora in 1947; he graduated from Ottawa High School in
81965; he enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 18, 1966; and
 
9    WHEREAS, SPC Treest was wounded on December 18, 1966, and
10he returned to Vietnam on April 20, 1967; and
 
11    WHEREAS, While on patrol on July 1, 1967, SPC Treest was
12wounded a second time and succumbed to his injuries on July 5,
131967; and
 
14    WHEREAS, SPC Treest was awarded the Purple Heart for
15wounds received in action; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
18SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of
19Route 6 in the City of Marseilles that runs from the
20intersections of Route 6 and Oakdale Street to Route 6 and Main

1Street as the "SPC Norman Treest Memorial Highway"; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
4is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
5State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
6giving notice of the name "SPC Norman Treest Memorial
7Highway"; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9presented to the family of SPC Treest, the Mayor of
10Marseilles, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
11Transportation.
