SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-699.23 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State may issue special registration plates to recipients of the Presidential Unit Citation. Provides that the plates shall display the Presidential Unit Citation ribbon. Specifies that the design and color of the special plates shall be wholly within the discretion of the Secretary.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.23 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.23 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.23. Presidential Unit Citation license plates.
8    (a) The Secretary of State, upon receipt of all applicable
9fees and applications made in the form prescribed by the
10Secretary, may issue special registration plates designated as
11Presidential Unit Citation plates. The special plates issued
12under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles
13of the first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the
14second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates
15under this Section shall expire according to the multi-year
16procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
17    The plates shall display the Presidential Unit Citation
18ribbon. In all other respects, the design and color of the
19special plates shall be wholly within the discretion of the
20Secretary. Appropriate documentation, as determined by the
21Secretary, shall accompany each application. The Secretary
22may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as
23vanity plates or personalized in accordance with Section

13-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to designate
2"Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of Section
33-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
4eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
5approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
6Section 3-412.
