SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
215 ILCS 5/356z.71 new

    Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Provides that a group or individual policy of accident and health insurance or managed care plan that is amended, delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2025 shall provide coverage or reimbursement for gym memberships. Provides that the coverage or reimbursement required under the provisions is limited to $50 per month. Defines "gym membership". Effective January 1, 2025.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by
5adding Section 356z.71 as follows:
 
6    (215 ILCS 5/356z.71 new)
7    Sec. 356z.71. Coverage or reimbursement of gym membership.
8    (a) In this Section, "gym membership" means the regular
9fee charged to the general public for entrance and usage of a
10facility containing machines and other equipment used for
11exercise and physical training, including, but not limited to,
12machines for exercising individual muscles, treadmills or
13other options for cardiovascular exercise, and free weights.
14    (b) A group or individual policy of accident and health
15insurance or managed care plan that is amended, delivered,
16issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2025 shall provide
17coverage or reimbursement for gym memberships. The coverage or
18reimbursement required under this Section is limited to $50
19per month.
 
20    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
211, 2025.
