SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/2-3.204 new

    Amends the School Code. Provides that the State Board of Education shall establish and implement a school time-change grant program to provide grants to school districts to assist with additional costs incurred to change when the school day starts at a school containing any of grades 6 through 12 to on or after 8 a.m. Provides that to be eligible to receive a grant under this program, a school district must change when the school day starts before the 2026-2027 school year. Provides that State Board of Education may adopt any rules necessary to implement these provisions.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
52-3.204 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.204 new)
7    Sec. 2-3.204. School time-change grant program.
8    (a) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education
9shall establish and implement a school time-change grant
10program to provide grants to school districts to assist with
11additional costs incurred to change when the school day starts
12at a school containing any of grades 6 through 12 to on or
13after 8 a.m.
14    (b) To be eligible to receive a grant under this program, a
15school district must change when the school day starts as
16provided under subsection (a) before the 2026-2027 school
17year.
18    (c) The State Board of Education may adopt any rules
19necessary to implement this Section.
