SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

625 ILCS 5/18c-7505 new

Amends the Illinois Commercial Transportation Law. Provides that as part of proof of financial responsibility, every rail carrier shall verify hit and run and uninsured motor vehicle coverage and underinsured motor vehicle coverage in a total amount of not less than $250,000 per passenger.

AN ACT concerning transportation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding Section 18c-7505 as follows:

Sec. 18c-7505. Proof of financial responsibility; uninsured motorists. As part of proof of financial responsibility, every rail carrier shall verify hit and run and uninsured motor vehicle coverage, as provided in Section 143a of the Illinois Insurance Code, and underinsured motor vehicle coverage, as provided in Section 143a-2 of the Illinois Insurance Code, in a total amount of not less than $250,000 per passenger.
