SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 1305/10-71 new

    Amends the Department of Human Services Act. Creates the Opioid Crisis Committee. Provides that the purpose of the Commission shall be to study the opioid crisis across the nation and the State. Provides that the Commission shall develop strategies and policies to reduce the number of overdoses and deaths due to opioids in the State. Provides that the Commission shall ensure that any policy developed will be equitably accessible across historically marginalized groups and in both rural and urban areas. Provides that the Commission shall consist of members appointed by the Department of Human Services. Provides that the Department of Human Services shall provide administrative assistance and necessary staff support services. Provides that the Commission shall issue a report on the findings and strategies developed by the Commission to the General Assembly and the Governor. Provides that the Commission shall be dissolved upon delivery of the report. Repeals the provisions on January 1, 2027.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Human Services Act is amended
5by adding Section 10-71 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 1305/10-71 new)
7    Sec. 10-71. Opioid Crisis Committee.
8    (a) The Department shall establish the Opioid Crisis
9Committee. The purpose of the Commission shall be to study the
10opioid crisis across the nation and the State. The Commission
11shall develop strategies and policies to reduce the number of
12overdoses and deaths due to opioids in the State. The
13Commission shall ensure that any policy developed will be
14equitably accessible across historically marginalized groups
15and in both rural and urban areas.
16    (b) The Commission shall consist of members appointed by
17the Department of Human Services.
18    (c) The Department shall provide administrative assistance
19and necessary staff support services.
20    (d) The Commission shall issue a report on the findings
21and strategies developed by the Commission pursuant to
22subsection (a) to the General Assembly and the Governor. The
23Commission shall be dissolved upon delivery of the report to

2    (e) This Section is repealed on January 1, 2027.
