AN ACT concerning business.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2BBBB as follows:

(815 ILCS 505/2BBBB new)

Sec. 2BBBB. Gas stoves.

(a) As used in this Section, "gas stove" means a household natural gas stove or range that is used for food preparation and provides at least one of the following functions:

(1) surface cooking;

(2) oven cooking; or

(3) broiling.

(b) No person shall sell, attempt to sell, or offer to sell to a consumer in this State a gas stove that is manufactured on or after January 1, 2024 unless a label on the gas stove bears the message:

WARNING: Gas stoves can release nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide inside homes at levels exceeding the EPA's standards for outdoor air quality. The presence of these pollutants may exacerbate pre-existing respiratory illnesses or lead to the development of asthma, especially in children. Gas powered stoves should never be used without a ducted vent hood to reduce exposure to these emissions.

The label shall be attached to the gas stove in a conspicuous location. The label must be in a type size no smaller than the largest type size used for other consumer information on the product. The Attorney General may adopt rules regarding the placement and format of the label.
