SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2310/2310-23 new

    Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Defines "pharmacy desert". Requires the Department of Public Health to provide an annual report to the General Assembly by December 31 of each year that identifies the locations of pharmacy deserts within the State and provides information about health issues associated with pharmacy deserts. Provides that if the annual report contains information from the federal government that identifies the locations of pharmacy deserts in the State and provides information on health issues associated with pharmacy deserts, then the requirements of the provisions shall be satisfied. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6amended by adding Section 2310-23 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-23 new)
8    Sec. 2310-23. Tracking pharmacy deserts. The Department
9shall provide an annual report to the General Assembly by
10December 31 of each year that identifies the locations of
11pharmacy deserts within the State and provides information
12about health issues associated with pharmacy deserts. If the
13annual report contains information from the federal government
14that identifies the locations of pharmacy deserts in the State
15and provides information on health issues associated with
16pharmacy deserts, then the requirements of this Section shall
17be satisfied. For the purposes of this Section, "pharmacy
18desert" means a location vapid of prescription medication
19retail sales, in part due to a lack of pharmacies, health care
20facilities, or other physical dispensaries of prescription
21medication.
 
22    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
