SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2705/2705-617 new

    Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall install direct current electric vehicle charging stations at each rest stop along each interstate highway in this State. Provides that, subject to approval by the United States Secretary of Transportation, the Department may charge an electric vehicle charging fee in an amount no greater than what is necessary to offset the cost to the State in constructing and maintaining the charging infrastructure and procuring electricity.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding
6Section 2705-617 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-617 new)
8    Sec. 2705-617. Direct current charging at rest stops. The
9Department of Transportation shall install direct current
10electric vehicle charging stations at each rest stop along
11each interstate highway in this State. Subject to approval by
12the United States Secretary of Transportation, the Department
13may charge an electric vehicle charging fee in an amount no
