1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and
5Audiology Practice Act is amended by changing Section 8.5 as
6follows:
 
7    (225 ILCS 110/8.5)
8    (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2028)
9    Sec. 8.5. Qualifications for licenses as a speech-language
10pathology assistant. A person is qualified to be licensed as a
11speech-language pathology assistant if that person has applied
12in writing or electronically on forms prescribed by the
13Department, has paid the required fees, and meets both of the
14following criteria:
15        (1) Is of good moral character. In determining moral
16    character, the Department may take into consideration any
17    felony conviction or plea of guilty or nolo contendere of
18    the applicant, but such a conviction or plea shall not
19    operate automatically as a complete bar to licensure.
20        (2) Has received either (i) an associate degree from a
21    speech-language pathology assistant program that has been
22    approved by the Department and that meets the minimum
23    requirements set forth in Section 8.6, or (ii) a

1    bachelor's degree and has completed course work from an
2    accredited college or university that meets the minimum
3    requirements set forth in Section 8.6, or (iii) a
4    bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology or
5    communication sciences and disorders from a regionally or
6    nationally accredited institution approved by the
7    Department, and evidence of completion of at least 100
8    hours of documented field work supervised by a licensed
9    speech-language pathologist that is comparable to that
10    completed in a speech-language pathology assistant program
11    in this State.
