| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | 3 | | congratulate Janet Bernice Runkel Anderson on the occasion of | 4 | | her 100th birthday; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Janet Anderson was born on May 14, 1924; she | 6 | | attended school in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area; during her | 7 | | high school years, she worked at her father's grocery store, | 8 | | graduating from Menomonee Falls High School in 1942; she | 9 | | attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and | 10 | | graduated Phi Beta Kappa; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Janet Anderson married Burton Anderson in August | 12 | | 1946, and they moved to Evanston, Illinois in order for her | 13 | | husband to complete dental school; they then moved to | 14 | | Northbrook in 1953, where they raised three daughters; that | 15 | | same year, she joined the Village Presbyterian Church; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Janet Anderson and her husband were both heavily | 17 | | involved in raising their daughters, and she assisted in her | 18 | | children's organizations, including Scouts and 4-H, as well as | 19 | | school activities; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Janet Anderson was an accomplished seamstress who | 21 | | also learned how to type transcripts in Braille for the blind, |

| 1 | | served on and volunteered for the Presbyterian Home Board, and | 2 | | enjoyed going out to dinner and dancing with her husband; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Janet Anderson has been a lifetime letter writer | 4 | | who has stayed in touch with her high school and college | 5 | | friends; she enjoys knitting, reading, doing crossword | 6 | | puzzles, playing cribbage, and visiting with friends; she has | 7 | | also enjoyed planning family vacations and traveling over the | 8 | | course of her life, and she has taken several domestic and | 9 | | international trips; she loves taking wonderful walks at the | 10 | | Chicago Botanic Gardens every chance she can find; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, For the past 41 years, Janet Anderson has been an | 12 | | active member and loving sister of P.E.O. Chapter IW, an | 13 | | International Women's Philanthropic Educational Organization | 14 | | dedicated to bringing women increased opportunities for | 15 | | obtaining higher education; a wonderful cook always open to | 16 | | trying new foods, she has become known as a memorable hostess | 17 | | for serving her warmed, wrapped in foil, ready-to-eat ham and | 18 | | cheese sandwiches at many P.E.O. luncheons; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Janet Anderson has enjoyed residing at Covenant | 20 | | Living in Northbrook for almost six years, and she still | 21 | | enjoys going out to eat and attending the symphony and the | 22 | | theater; therefore, be it |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Janet | 3 | | Bernice Runkel Anderson on her 100th birthday, and we wish her | 4 | | continued health and happiness; and be it further | 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to Janet Anderson as an expression of our esteem and | 7 | | respect. |
