SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate the Lions of Illinois Foundation on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, The Lions of Illinois have provided services to their local communities since the creation of the organization in 1917; and

WHEREAS, The Lions of Illinois Foundation was created by the Lions of Illinois at a state convention in May of 1974 and began operating on July 1, 1974; and

WHEREAS, The Lions of Illinois Foundation was created to provide services throughout Illinois to those with vision and hearing needs; and

WHEREAS, Those services include Camp Lions, which began as a one week camp for children and has grown to five weeks of camp with three locations throughout Illinois, student low vision screenings for children with advanced optical needs, and adult low vision training for orientation and mobility in their homes and community; and

WHEREAS, The Lions of Illinois Foundation provides over 3000 screenings for vision and hearing each year on mobile units and sponsors the statewide Candy Day fundraiser with all Lions' clubs participating; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Lions of Illinois Foundation on its 50th anniversary and wish it many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Lions of Illinois Foundation as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
