SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate Audrey Soglin on her recent retirement as the Executive Director of the Illinois Education Association and commend her lifetime commitment to improving the lives of every student throughout the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Through her collaborative work, Audrey Soglin has established herself as one of the premier advocates for educators by ensuring that their voices are heard and that the positive work being done in our schools and classrooms is recognized by parents, legislators, and community leaders; and

WHEREAS, Audrey Soglin has taken a leadership role throughout her career, whether as a classroom teacher, local union leader, or executive director; and

WHEREAS, Audrey Soglin helped position the Illinois Education Association as one of the leaders on the importance of trauma-informed practices, as well as social and emotional learning, and of including these as a part of every day best teaching practices; and

WHEREAS, Audrey Soglin has committed the Illinois Education Association to becoming a leader in racial and social justice throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, Audrey Soglin has helped the Illinois Education Association evolve into one of the national models of how a labor union should be led through collaboration with the voices of the general membership at large; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Audrey Soglin on her retirement, commend her many years of service to the educators of Illinois, and wish her good luck in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Audrey Soglin as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
