SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who
4have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Cpl. Lester H. Leopold was born in Wilmington on
7August 26, 1948, and he was a 1966 graduate of the Will County
8School System; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Cpl. Leopold went on to serve in the U.S. Army
10with the 1st Cavalry Division; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Cpl. Leopold began a tour of duty in South
12Vietnam on July 21, 1969; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cpl. Leopold was killed in action in the Tay Ninh
14Province of South Vietnam on September 6, 1969; and
 
15    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Cpl. Leopold was
16survived by his mother and two siblings; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
19REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the West

1Baltimore Street Bridge over the Kankakee River just west of
2North Water Street in Wilmington as the "Cpl. Lester H.
3Leopold Memorial Bridge"; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
5is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
6State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
7giving notice of the name the "Cpl. Lester H. Leopold Memorial
8Bridge"; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Cpl. Leopold, the Mayor of
11Wilmington, and the Secretary of Transportation.
