HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The dedication and leadership exhibited by Elizabeth Austin, Colleen Kahl, and the Pekin Community High School's Student Council Executive Board in championing the initiative to designate a state color for Illinois is commendable; and

WHEREAS, Their proactive engagement with local legislators and advocacy efforts reflect a deep commitment to civic participation and youth empowerment; and

WHEREAS, The establishment of a state color for Illinois will serve to foster a sense of pride and unity among its residents, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and diversity of the state; and

WHEREAS, The involvement of students from across Illinois in the decision-making process is paramount to ensuring representation and inclusivity in selecting a symbol that resonates with the collective identity of the state; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Elizabeth Austin, Collen Kahl, and the members of the Pekin Community High School's Student Council Executive Board for their exemplary leadership and advocacy in advancing the proposal to establish a state color for Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage the Illinois State Board of Education's Student Advisory Council to consider researching the state's symbols to provide recommendations on a state color as part of its 2024/2025 project agenda; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we underscore the importance of ensuring an inclusive and participatory decision-making process by urging the Illinois State Board of Education's Student Advisory Council to actively engage students from diverse backgrounds and regions of the state when developing a recommendation for a state color; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we emphasize the necessity of transparency and urge the Illinois State Board of Education's Student Advisory Council to seek public input from Illinoisans at every stage; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we commit to considering the Illinois State Board of Education's Student Advisory Council's recommendation for a state color and pledge to further collaborate with relevant stakeholders to establish it and later promote its recognition and significance across Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage the Illinois State Board of Education's Student Advisory Council to update the Illinois State Legislature on the development of a recommendation for a state color, including insights gained from student engagement activities and any lessons they learned as part of the process; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to the Illinois State Board of Education Student Advisory Council.
