HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Evelyn Lust, a sixth grader from John C. Coonley Elementary School, on the occasion of her placing second in the 2023 Chicago Public Schools Citywide Spelling Bee Championship; and

WHEREAS, The CPS Citywide Spelling Bee Championship was held at Lindblom Math and Science Academy on March 2, 2023; the competition provides an opportunity for students across Chicago to meet, engage, and learn from one another; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn Lust first won a spelling bee in her sixth grade classroom and then won a school-wide spelling bee at John C. Coonley Elementary School before placing in the top 50 of all school-wide winners to advance to the CPS Citywide Spelling Bee Championship; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn Lust correctly spelled the words pileus, colubrine, synanthrope, Namibian, and raclette to progress to the 22nd round; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn Lust was guided by John C. Coonley Elementary School Principal Brennen Humphrey and teacher Laura Parsons, two individuals who foster a meritorious environment that promotes success within the student body; and

WHEREAS, This marks the second time Evelyn Lust has represented John C. Coonley Elementary School in the CPS Citywide Spelling Bee Championship; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Evelyn Lust from John C. Coonley Elementary School on her outstanding accomplishment in the 2023 Chicago Public Schools Citywide Spelling Bee Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Evelyn Lust and John C. Coonley Elementary School as an expression of our esteem and respect.
