HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Clarence Johnson for his
4years of service as an officer of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
5Inc. and his commitment to its ideals of brotherhood,
6scholarship, and service; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson was born in Chicago and attended
8Loyola University, where he received his bachelor's and
9master's degrees and embarked on a career as a teacher; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson served locally as president of
11the Iota Alpha Chapter from 1959 to 1961, as state director for
12Illinois from 1971 to 1974, as vice president of the Upsilon
13Sigma Chapter in 1976, and as president of the Upsilon Sigma
14Chapter from 1995 to 1999; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson served as director of the Great
16Lakes Region from 1974 to 1980 while also serving as regional
17director of collegiate affairs from 1974 to 1977, as regional
18director from 1977 to 1980, and as a regional parliamentarian
19from 2000 to 2001; during his tenure, he helped charter more
20than 60 chapters; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson served as national director of

1collegiate affairs from 1980 to 1981 and as a trustee on the
2Phi Beta Sigma's National Real Estate Commission from 1997 to
32001; he was inducted into the Distinguished Service Chapter
4in 1997 in recognition of his service to the communities
5served by Phi Beta Sigma; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we recognize Clarence Johnson for exemplifying the ideals of
9brotherhood, scholarship, and service through his years of
10dedication to strengthening Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
11and the communities its members serve; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Clarence Johnson as an expression of our esteem
14and respect.
