2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ted "Redeye" G. Schumann Sr., who
4passed away on February 3, 2022; and
5    WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was born to Robert and Ethel
6(Follis) Schumann on July 27, 1929; he married Millie Retzer
7on January 8, 1955; he served his country in the Korean War as
8a sergeant in the U. S. Army and received a purple heart during
9his time in combat; and
10    WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was the owner of Schumann's Conoco
11Gas Station in Kampsville; he was also a friendly school bus
12driver, an outstanding referee who was always called in for
13the big game, and a compassionate coach and mentor; he coached
14basketball for over 50 years at Kampsville Grade School, St.
15Norbert's Grade School, and Calhoun Junior High and also
16coached in many other sports; and
17    WHEREAS, Ted Schumann served as the Mayor of Kampsville
18for a number of years; his community service and generosity
19were boundless; and
20    WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was a member of Kampsville American
21Legion Post 1083 for more than 60 years and served as

1commander, adjutant, and chaplain; he was also a board member
2for the Center for American Archeology; and
3    WHEREAS, Ted Schumann was preceded in death by his
4parents; his wife; his four siblings, Harold (Dorothy)
5Schumann, Deneen "Deaner" (Lela) Schumann, Gloria "Sis" (Gene)
6Becker, and Murial "Mackie" (Ed) Spears; and his
7sister-in-law, Betty Lorsbach McGinnis; and
8    WHEREAS, Ted Schumann is survived by his three children,
9Beverly (Terrill) Mosbarger, Becky (Mike) Weber, and Ted Jr.
10"Rusty" (Sonya) Schumann; his eleven grandchildren; his
11eighteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; his
12brother-in-law, Otto Floyd (Linda) Retzer; and his numerous
13special nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Ted "Redeye" G. Schumann Sr. and extend our sincere
17condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18him; and be it further
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Ted Schumann as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
