SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Emma Doris "Dot" Amos, who passed away on October 12, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Emma Amos was born in Grenada County, Mississippi to James and Elizabeth (Brown) Lincoln on September 21, 1938; she attended Grenada High School, where she sang in the school choir and, during her first year, received a musical scholarship to study voice at Campbell College in Jackson, Mississippi; after two years, she returned to Grenada High School, where she continued to sing with the school choir and often had the honor of singing live on the town's local radio station; she also played basketball her senior year; she graduated in 1956 with honors as salutatorian and attended Jackson State College; she was married to Ralph L. Nichols Sr. from 1956 until 1959, and they had one son together; she later married Booker T. "Earl" Amos in 1962, and they had four children together; and

WHEREAS, Emma Amos was employed as a bus driver for 25 years at the Crawford Bus Company in Lockport; she was later employed as a kitchen staff member with the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet, retiring at the age of 62 after four years of service; and

WHEREAS, Emma Amos loved flowers and was a seasoned gardener; she loved reading and listening to all types of music; she collected all types of dolls and ceramic figurines; she loved all sports and knew more about the teams than most of the commentators; and

WHEREAS, Emma Amos loved family, and her house served as a revolving door for nieces, nephews, and extended family who called it home whenever needed; she and her sister, Vivian, helped raise each other's children and spoke to each other nearly every day throughout their lives, and her grandson, D'Ante Amos, lived with her during his teenage years and was thought of as her youngest child; and

WHEREAS, Emma Amos was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Booker T. Amos; her brother-in-law, Lee Mister Sr.; and her nephew, Lee Mister Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Emma Amos is survived by her sister, Vivian Mister; her children, Ralph L. (Leslie) Nichols Jr., Erroll (Phyllis), Rhonda E. (Bill) Bruton, Erland, and Ronald (Nichol); her stepdaughter, Shannon (Wesley); her nieces and nephews, Dannette (Ollie) Walker, Reginald Mister, and Joyce Mister; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Emma Doris "Dot" Amos and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Emma Amos as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
