SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of George John Schlenker of Rock Island,
4who passed away on September 15, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Schlenker was born to Carl and Flora
6(Boerger) Schlenker in Fort Wayne, Indiana on July 23, 1931;
7he attended Fort Wayne Public Schools and graduated from
8Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in 1953; he then
9attended the University of Iowa Graduate Program and received
10his master's degree in engineering in 1968; he married Emily
11C. Diehl in Moline on April 28, 1962, and they divorced in
121993; he served in the U.S. Army; and
 
13    WHEREAS, George Schlenker taught in the graduate school
14program at Indiana University for one year; he then taught for
15the Fort Wayne public school system for two years before
16entering the Army; after being honorably discharged, he was
17employed as an operations research analyst with the Rock
18Island Civilian Service for the Department of the Army until
19his retirement in 1996; and
 
20    WHEREAS, George Schlenker received the Army Civilian
21Meritorious Service Award from the Department of Defense for
22his work on guided missile systems; and

1    WHEREAS, In retirement, George Schlenker pursued a
2lifelong passion for photography, winning awards for his bird
3portraits and exhibiting regionally; he also cultivated a
4passion for the visual arts and Native American history
5throughout his life; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George Schlenker is survived by his children,
7Charles (Sarah Curtis) Schlenker and Lisa Anne (Steve
8Gillingham) Schlenker; his grandchildren, Benjamin Curtis
9Johnson and Ethan Curtis Schlenker; his sister, Alice (Paul)
10Mutschlecner; and his niece and nephews, David, Tim, and
11Celia; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14George John Schlenker and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of George Schlenker as an expression
19of our deepest sympathy.
