SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Daniel J. "Dan" Maloney, who passed
4away on April 16, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Daniel Maloney was born to Dr. Edward Maloney and
6Mary Sheridan Maloney on June 15, 1950; he was a native South
7Sider; he attended St. Thomas More Grammar School and St.
8Laurence High School; he received a Bachelor of Science from
9the University of Notre Dame; he earned a Master of Science in
10Anatomy from Indiana University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Daniel Maloney was a career educator of high
12school science and a track and field coach; he taught science
13at Mother McAuley High School for six years; he then taught and
14coached track at Oak Lawn High School for 31 years until his
15retirement in 2017; he touched the lives of thousands of
16students and athletes in his long career; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Daniel Maloney was known as an educator and a
18coach in the broadest sense; he enjoyed jovially quizzing
19people about random facts, big ideas where misconceptions
20often reigned, or whatever topic he had been learning about
21recently; he will be dearly missed; and

1    WHEREAS, Daniel Maloney was the husband of Judy Maloney;
2the brother of Thomas, the late Sharon, the late Patrick
3(Irene), and Nancy Kelly; the father of Molly (Javier) Duran,
4Shannon (Vito) Giovingo, and Kelly; the grandfather of Alex,
5Max, and Josephine; the uncle of numerous nieces and nephews;
6a proud godfather; and the patriarch of the Kahoonie Clan, his
7beloved Notre Dame community; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Daniel J. "Dan" Maloney and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Daniel Maloney as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
