SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John Van Dyke "Tad" Skillman Jr., a
4resident of Carpentersville for the past 64 years, who passed
5away on August 23, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Skillman was born to John Skillman Sr. and
7Charlotte C. (Steib) Brady in Chicago on August 9, 1933; he
8served in the U.S. Army; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Skillman began his professional career as a
10police officer in the Village of Carpentersville in the early
111960s; during his tenure, he earned the ranks of sergeant,
12lieutenant, captain, and police chief; he retired as chief of
13police after 25 years of service to the Carpentersville Police
14Department in 1985; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Following his retirement, John Skillman served as
16village trustee of Carpentersville from 1985 to 1989; he later
17served as village board president from 1989 to 1997; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Skillman was a charter member of St. Monica
19Catholic Church in Carpentersville; he served on School
20District #300's Board of Education from 1971 to 1983, where he
21also previously served as board president; he was an avid

1supporter of the Irving Crown High School Booster Club; he was
2later a board member and an inductee of the Dundee Crown High
3School's Athletic Hall of Fame; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Skillman was known for always giving,
5helping, and being there for people; he was and will be
6remembered as a true public servant; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Skillman was preceded in death by his
8parents; his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Dooley Skillman; and
9his sisters, Barbara Smith and Terry Dewey; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Skillman is survived by his children,
11Kathleen (Randy) Sellnow, Maureen (the late Michael) Harrison,
12John (Susan) Skillman, and Robert (Marybeth) Skillman; his
13grandchildren, Matthew (Rebecca) Harrison, James (Molly) and
14Scott (Brittany) Sellnow, and Jonathan (Larisa), Amanda, Van
15Dyke, and Callie Skillman; his great-grandchildren, Riley,
16Bailey, Sean, Levi, Evan, Colin, and Arija; his sisters, Sally
17Murphy, Penny (Joe) Miller, and Bonnie (Bill Roesler) Wyman;
18his many nieces and nephews; his countless friends; and his
19longtime companion, Peggy Basura; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22John Van Dyke "Tad" Skillman Jr. and extend our sincere

1condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
2him; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of John Skillman as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
