SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Stephen "Steve" Carter Ballinger I of
4Mattoon, who passed away on July 7, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steve Ballinger was born to Leonard Carter
6"Dutch" and Margaret Fern (Furry) Ballinger in Mattoon on
7October 1, 1946; he married Cheryl A. Storm in Mattoon on June
827, 1976; he was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War who served
9his country in the United States Air Force; and
 
10    WHEREAS, After his honorable discharge from the Air Force,
11Steve Ballinger started his 30 year career at the Mattoon
12Street Department; he was previously employed by Young
13Radiator for 13 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Steve was an active member of the First Christian
15Church of Mattoon where he served as a deacon and a trustee;
16throughout the years, he was a member of various lodges and
17organizations, including the Masonic Lodge at Wabash #179 A.F. &
18 A.M., the Corn Belt Shrine Club of Coles County, the Ansar
19Shriners of Springfield, the Mattoon Exchange Club, the
20American Legion of Mattoon, and Mattoon VFW Post 4325; he was
21devoted to the Boy Scouts of America and served as an Assistant
22Troop Leader to Boy Scout Troop 152 and as Advanced Committee

1Chairman for the Lincoln Trails District; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Steve Ballinger was a man of strong faith; his
3favorite times were spent with his children and grandchildren
4on the family farm; his devotion to his family and friends was
5paramount in his life, and he was happiest when surrounded by
6loved ones; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Steve Ballinger was preceded in death by his
8parents and his grandson, Garrison D. Ballinger-Coffman; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Steve Ballinger is survived by his wife, Cheryl;
10his two daughters, Cheri L. Coffman and Lisa M. Ballinger; his
11son, Stephen (Kyla) Carter Ballinger II; and his five
12grandchildren, Anthony (Katie) G. Coffman, Gregory (Monica) D.
13Coffman, Kimberly M. Coffman, Carter T. Ballinger, and Callyn
14A. Ballinger; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Stephen "Steve" Carter Ballinger I and extend our sincere
18condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Steve Ballinger as an expression of
