SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Marvin D. Spohn of East Moline, who
4passed away on July 2, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Spohn was born to Martin and Rosa
6(Willard) Spohn in Miami, Oklahoma on October 6, 1930; he was
7born and raised on the family farm during the depression in
8Oklahoma and learned the welding trade at the age of 12 from
9working in his father's shop; he served in the United States
10Army during the Korean War and in the reserves following the
11war; he married Elsie L. Scoles in Miami, Oklahoma on July 8,
121950; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Early in his life, Marvin Spohn worked in the
14zinc mines in Pitcher, Oklahoma; he and his wife owned and
15operated a drive-in restaurant in Baxter Springs, Kansas; he
16worked at International Harvester for 28 years and was on the
17Board of Directors at IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union for
1838 years; he owned and operated Spohn Welding in East Moline;
19he finished his working career as owner of Spohn Ground and
20Maintenance, maintaining the IH Credit Unions throughout the
21Quad Cities; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Marvin Spohn was formerly a member of New Life,

1Moline as well as Moline Gospel Temple; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Marvin Spohn was a devoted husband, beloved
3father, grandfather, and friend; he was a man of faith who
4loved his community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Spohn was preceded in death by his
6parents; his four sisters; and his four brothers; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marvin Spohn is survived by his wife; Stephen
8(Nancy) Spohn; his grandson, Erik Spohn; his granddaughter,
9Heidi Spohn; and his special friends, Darryl and Meryl Knole;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Marvin D. Spohn and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Marvin Spohn as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
