SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Doris Markman Gruskin, who passed away on October 22, 2020 at the age of 102; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin was a lifelong resident of Oak Park and attended Hawthorne School and Oak Park River Forest High School; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin graduated from Purdue University with a degree in textile science; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin was involved with multiple helping organizations in Oak Park and beyond, such as West Suburban Temple Har Zion, the Oak Park Senior Center, the Oak Park Arts Council, and Brandeis University's Women's Organization; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin retired from Montclare Senior Residences of Galewood at age 99; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin enjoyed family time in Colorado and New Jersey and attending bar and bat mitzvahs for younger relatives; during her granddaughter Rachel Lutz's wedding in Breckenridge, Colorado, she danced at 10,000 feet elevation; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin loved to read and participated in a book club for decades; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Gruskin; her brother, Charles (the late Gloria) Markman; and her sister, Selma (the late James) Shamberg; and

WHEREAS, Doris Gruskin is survived by her children, Nancy Warner and Mark Gruskin; her grandchildren, Abigail Warner, Rachel Lutz (Zach), and Yoni Gruskin; and her great-grandson, Jude Lutz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Doris Markman Gruskin and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doris Gruskin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
