SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Yvonne Brown; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Yvonne Brown was born to Walter and Bertha
5Robinson on October 18, 1934; she attended A.O Sexton Grammar
6School, Hyde Park High School, and the University of Chicago
7Lab School; she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business
8Administration from the University of Chicago; she met and
9married Thomas R. Pearson, and they had four sons; she later
10met and married Isaiah Brown, and they had one son; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Yvonne Brown was a devoted employee of the United
12States Civil Service Department; she also worked over 30 years
13as a fiscal manager with the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic
14Charities and retired in 2004; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1967, Yvonne Brown joined the Mary McLeod
16Bethune Temple, where she was appointed to serve on the
17Trustee Board; she served as a Doorkeeper, Gatekeeper,
18Assistant Daughter Ruler, and Vice Daughter, and was the third
19Daughter to serve as Daughter Ruler; she received Past State
20President Honors in Rockford through the fashion department;
21in 1972 in St. Louis, she received Past Grand Daughter Ruler
22honors through the Grand Daughter Ruler's Volunteer

1Department; and
 
2    WHEREAS, On the Illinois and Wisconsin state level, Yvonne
3Brown served as the Membership Chairperson, Initiation
4Chairperson, Trustee, and Administrative Assistant to then
5Daughter State President Alfrenia Y. Hampton; on the national
6level, she served as one of the first Grand Temple Marshals,
7District Deputy for 15 years, and Grand Temple Trustee for 3
8years; currently, she was serving as Secretary for the Grand
9Temple's Grievance and Appeals Committee; she was also serving
10as President of the National Daughter State Presidents
11Council, which is a role in which she served since 1992; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Yvonne Brown actively participated as a member of
13the Grand Exalted Ruler's Advisory Board, the Grand Lodge
14Civil Liberties Department, and the National Association of
15Professional Women; she mentored in the Turn Around Program;
16she was past matron of Queen Esther Chapter No. 5, the Order of
17the Eastern Star and was a past member of the Most Ancient
18Grand Matron Heroines of Jericho; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Yvonne Brown was a recipient of the C.L. 6
20Blanche Smith Image Award; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Yvonne Brown was a devoted member of the #2 Mount
22Pleasant M.B Church in Chicago; and

1    WHEREAS, Yvonne Brown was preceded in death by her
2parents, Walter and Bertha Robinson; her first husband, Thomas
3R. Pearson; her second husband, Isaiah Brown; her brother,
4Thomas White; her sister, Yvette Garlington; and her oldest
5son, Thomas Pearson Jr.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Yvonne Brown is survived by her four sons, Theron
7Pearson, Tyrone (Kathleen) Pearson, Thurston (Bobbie) Pearson,
8and Isaiah Brown Jr.; her twenty grandchildren; her 55
9great-grandchildren; her seven nieces; her three nephews; and
10a host of family and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Yvonne Brown and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
14friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Yvonne Brown as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
