SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Donald "Don" M. Hoover of Moline, who
4passed away on March 21, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Hoover was born to George A. and Mildred R.
6Jordan Hoover in Moline on December 2, 1935; he graduated from
7Alleman High School in 1954 and then joined the U.S. Marine
8Corps Reserves; he later entered active duty in the Marine
9Corps, where he honorably served in Japan, the Philippine
10Islands, and Puerto Rico; he earned the rank of sergeant at the
11time of his discharge in 1958; he married Carol Jean Mirr in
12Moline on August 17, 1957; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Don Hoover began working for John Deere Harvester
14Works in 1959; he retired as a supervisor in 1985; following
15his retirement, he began his own business as a general
16contractor from which he retired in 2014; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1976, Don Hoover built a new home, and the
18family moved to Rustic Acres near Colona, where he served on
19the board of the lake association; in earlier years, he was a
20member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, and a
21member and an officer for the Willow Springs Swim Club; he was
22also a member of the Mississippi Valley Antique Car Club; and

1    WHEREAS, Don Hoover enjoyed antique cars, traveling,
2family card games, bowling, and dancing with his wife; he was
3also interested in history and geography; he served as the
4family's Jack of all Trades whenever needed; he never met a
5stranger and enjoyed sharing his sense of humor with all; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Don Hoover was preceded in death by his father
7and stepmother, George and Julia Hoover; his mother and
8stepfather, Mildred and Paul Schnell; his brother, Roger; and
9his grandparents; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Don Hoover is survived by his wife, Carol Jean;
11his children, Tamara "Tammy" (Norman) Pearson, Lisa (Jeff)
12Day, Cynthia "Cindy" Brown (Kurt Hendrickson), Monica Bottom,
13Jennifer "Jenny" (Jeff) Hoogerwerf, and Jay (Noelle) Hoover;
14his grandchildren, Josh and Jake Pearson, Aimee, Erik, and Ian
15Butterworth, Ashley and Missi Brown, Rachel and Nicole Bottom,
16Jennaca Hollinger, Tyler and Tess Hoogerwerf, Autumn Sender,
17and Sydney and Hunter Hoover; his great-grandchildren, Jacob,
18Jack, Ethan, Rowan, and Teigen; his sisters-in-law, Janet
19Robinson, Betty Dies, and Marge Mirr; his brother-in-law, Dale
20(Lana) Mirr; his nieces and nephews; and his additional family
21and friends; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Donald "Don" M. Hoover and extend our sincere condolences to
3his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Don Hoover as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
