SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Calvin Lewis Peters of East Moline, who passed away on April 20, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Calvin Peters was born to James Alfred and Zettie (Dotson) Peters in Belton, Arkansas on April 10, 1924; he graduated from Blevins High School in Blevins, Arkansas and from Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas; he married Nancy Jean McAdams in Nashville, Arkansas on August 4, 1950; he served in the U.S. Army during World War II; while serving with General McArthur in the far East, he earned five battle stars; he then served in the Army Reserves for 20 years, retiring as captain in 1968; and

WHEREAS, Calvin Peters worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 32 years, retiring in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Calvin Peters was an active member of First Baptist Church, Moline for 47 years; he was active in the Masonic Fraternity, as a 61-year member of Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, Moline Lodge #1014, AF & AM, Silvis Lodge #898, AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline, Kaaba Shrine, Davenport, and Moline Hi-12 Club; he was also a life member of the Reserve Officers Association, VFW Post #2056, and American Legion Post #227; and

WHEREAS, Calvin Peters is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy; his two sons, William C. (Donna Marie) Peters and James H. Peters; and his brother, J. Dale Peters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Calvin Lewis Peters and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Calvin Peters as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
